My 2005 in Movies, Part 1 of 3

As promised, my list of movies that I saw in 2005, either theatrically or DVD, theatrically unless otherwise noted. They're in the order that they were seen. It looks like I logged 33 movies, so I'll probably do three posts of eleven each. I've also noted when I've seen a film more than once.

There may be spoilers, so I've put everything behind a cut.

In this installment, I'll be briefly talking about: The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissu, Electra, House of Flying Daggers, A Love Song For Bobby Long, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, Constantine, Sin City, Kung Fu Hustle, Kingdom of Heaven, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and Star Wars 3: Revenge of the Sith.

I would highly recommend the blog of [livejournal.com profile] magic_rat for good reviews of films.

My 2005 in Books, Part 1 of probably 4 or 5

In 2005 it looks like I read 47 books for recreation, more accurately, I finished 47 books. There are several that were started and put aside for various reasons, those are not on this list. I'll be organizing this set mainly by author as I prefer to read series rather than one-shot books. This list also includes e-books, either downloaded from Project Guttenberg and reformatted for my Palm Pilot or released on CD collections like Baen Books does for David Weber and others.

News of the Weird

I love this stuff!

(G)Ass Backwards: To support its December rate-increase request, the Connecticut utility Yankee Gas Services said it needs more money because too many of its customers have lowered their bills by heeding calls to conserve energy. And a November report commissioned by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce included the proposal that Congress replenish the federal Highway Trust Fund by imposing a special tax on gas-saving hybrid cars (in that those cars consume less fuel than regular cars and therefore pay less in gasoline tax). [Connecticut Post, 12-10-05] [Boston Globe-AP, 11-26-05]

And in Reseda, Calif., in September, one man was killed and his pal wounded in a shootout as they attempted a random carjacking but didn't realize that men in the targeted car were FBI agents on surveillance. [KCBS-TV (Los Angeles)-AP, 10-1-05]

My 2005 in Movies, Part 2 of 3

I went through [livejournal.com profile] magic_rat's list of films that he's reviewed and noticed that I'd missed a couple off my list, it looks like I'm up to 36 now.

Probably no real spoilers, but I'll put it all behind a cut anyway.

Here we talk about: National Treasure, Batman Begins, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Sean of the Dead, Finding Nemo, Princess Bride, Bewitched, Fantastic Four, Continental Divide, Sky High, The Transporter and Transporter 2.
