Could be. For me, definite call-back to the Brit Xmas movie where Hugh Grant is P.M., the name eludes me for the moment. [looks it up] Love Actually, 2003. Liam Neeson, who actually doesn’t kill anyone in this film, has a son who is smitten with a girl, and they have a holiday talent show at the girl and she sings All I Want For Christmas Is You. It was very cute.
