Ugh, if everyone else had voiced that opinion a few years ago...

...well, the cynic says nobody in power would have listened, but he also says that the power change would have happened earlier, so maybe we'd be doing this, but four years earlier.

True enough, but until now, any time someone went looking for proof that misdeeds were being done, they got heavily redacted bullshit or told that it was a matter of national security, and so they couldn't get confirming evidence.
