There are ways around the IP thing. I was using Tonido for years, which was a nice free solution for file access, and also had a nifty jukebox app for streaming mp3s from home, which was mainly what I used it for. But then for some reason they axed the jukebox app, and since I didn't really use it for file access (I put stuff I want to have universal access to in my Dropbox or on my webhost via ftp) and wanted to have more options to access my music and video, I went with Plex, as mentioned above. There's a free level of service to try it out, or you can pay for more features. I'm considering trying the paid one, as they have a new Media Player software for home theater PC use that I'd like to try (and hasn't yet been released as a free piece).
Glad the storm seems to have spared the homefront. That's gotta be scary! Here we're still dealing with unseasonably warm days and nights. It's becoming quite a drag, actually. The weekend looks better, though it might be a wet one. I'll take the change anyway!
