Man gets 14 years in prison for trying to steal domain name at gunpoint

You wonder if it's possible to make up weirder stories than stuff like this.

Guy runs a social media channel called Do It For State while taking classes at Iowa State, showing the dark side of human behavior in college. Another man in Iowa owns the domain, doitforstate.com, and he isn't interested in selling said domain after multiple entreaties.

So Guy gets his cousin, a gun, a taser, and they cleverly disguise themselves with pantyhose over their heads and dark glasses. Break into domain owners' home, pistol whip him, shoot him in the leg, trying to force him to transfer the domain to them.

Domain owner is an ex-con.

He manages to take control of the gun - with a bullet in his leg - and shoots the guy multiple times in the chest. Guy survives, and is now going to prison for 14 years.

Can you make up stuff like this? I would have paid money to see the look on the guy's face when everything started to go pear-shaped and he started getting shot.

I heard about this when it happened, it's nice to know the "social media influencer" is going away for a nice, long, vacation.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Reminds me of the jerk who broke into the old man's house only to discover old gramps was a boxing champion who clocked him but good.

And in my home town, when I was about 8 one of my father's colleagues had two guys break into his house and demand he open his safe and give them the money inside. He didn't keep money in his safe. He just kept his important papers and his target practice pistol and ammo in there. It was just a .22, but it did enough.

Wow. People are forever more complex than we think. I have the most trouble with how it all started - someone tried to force a sale of a domain at gunpoint? Really?
