A SF/F book collection from Humble Bundle
Tachyon Books releasing twenty books for $18 in PDF, epub, and Mobi format, featuring Brandon Sanderson, Bruce Sterling, and a host of other authors, male and female. Most of the books are novels, there are a few short story collections. A couple of the books I absolutely will not touch, but a lot of them look quite interesting. And at less than a buck per, certainly a good deal.
As usual, no DRM.
The charity for this bundle is Gameheads, described as: "We are a tech training program that uses video game design, development and DevOps to create diverse talent and bold new voices, train youth of color for the tech eco-system, and prepare them for college, career and civic life. Teaching areas include: Project management, art and animation, software development and programming fundamentals, project management, game design, level design, video game history/theory and more." Sounds like a worthwhile charity to me! You can adjust the percentage of your purchase for how much goes to the charity with sliders, personally I try to split it into rough thirds.
This bundle just launched today and will be up for another twenty days.

Cool! I have several of these authors on my (digital) shelves, but none of these specific titles. I buy almost exclusively digital these days.

I've read The bruising of Qilwa by Naseem Jamima. It was good.
I've read other things by these authors, but not the books in the bundle:
-- Tobias Buckell -- Ragamuffin -- good novel, but I mostly don't read short fiction
-- Nicole Kornher-Stace -- Firebreak -- novel (possibly YA?) with lots of conflict and war and streaming of online games
-- Marjorie Liu -- A fave author for graphic stories and prose fiction
-- Sam J. Miller -- Blackfish City -- really interesting world setup
-- Daniel Pinkwater -- Who doesn't like Pinkwater?
-- Bruce Sterling -- Good author, but again, short fiction
-- Lavie Tidhar -- Central Station, which I liked, but somehow I haven't kept up with their other works
-- Jane Yolen -- I love her work, but I haven't read this one yet (she's so prolific, dammit)

Humble has gotten SO MUCH money from me over the past decade or so! :-) Not to mention Story Bundle and the two ebook newsletters that I receive every day. My wife was in Salt Lake City last night for a doctor appt, she's almost home right now, and she asked me if I'd read a certain kid's book series, I'd never heard of it. It involved a Welsh minstrel who lied so much that a wizard enchanted his harp that whenever he lied, a string broke. While we were talking on the phone, I did a keyword search, found it in the Apple book store, bought the five book series as an omnibus, and sent it to her. She was very pleased. I'm looking forward to reading it as I'm between books at the mo.

Thank you. :)

YW! Another thing that I'd suggest next year is to buy a supporting membership to WorldCon, the World Science Fiction Convention. It costs $50, but you get downloads for all, or at least most, of the books nominated for the Hugo Awards! It's a great way to meet new authors and their best new works. Twelve different categories, five or six nominees per. Not all of them are books. But lots of cool stuff, and you get to vote for the winners! I'll post about it later in the year.
