Digital Rights Management, for one thing. For example, award-winning author and electronic rights advocate Cory Doctorow will not sell his audiobooks through Amazon/Audible because he will not allow his electronic books - in any form - to be sold with DRM. So he runs Kickstarters, hires professionals, and has his own books recorded and distributed - like these - as MP3s. Audible is also infamous for books disappearing and having to be reloaded, difficulty in finding things in large libraries, etc.
