A long article that reveals how pretty much every aspect of The Apprentice was managed to overcome the shortcomings of Their Star: his inability to remember lines or contestant names, his misogyny, his racism, etc.

The producer had to sign a nasty NDA in 2004 with stiff penalties, it just expired.

I appreciate the framing of the show and the management as running a con on the people who were watching, because the convicted felon has been a con man all of his life, it seems, inheriting his wealth, cheating others, and building his image as a successful person without ever having to actually demonstrate that he was competent or successful. And now he's got a more powerful con being run in his favor, despite proving that he couldn't actually do the job the first time he got elected to it.

I found it quite interesting that his office was too shabby to film in and they had to construct one to film in!  I wouldn't have thought that.

It makes more sense to me, but only because I doubt he was in that office enough to care about how it looked. I wouldn't be surprised if he tried to conduct business in such a way that he did it while someone was wowed by the flash.

They caught on tape him using the N word, not in a 'for broadcast' shot, discussing a contestant and whether or not he should win.  They taped these discussions in case the FCC ever came investigating whether the show was rigged.  Witnessed by like at least six other people.
