RIP: Actor Ron Ely, one of TV's Tarzans among many other roles

Ron was 86 and passed at his daughter's house in California. Aside from his run as Tarzan, he was a bit player appearing in many dramas of the '70s and '80s. But my role for him has been and always will be the film Doc Savage: Man of Bronze. While it is solidly a B movie, it is so over the top that it will always have a soft spot in my heart.

Great job, Ron, you certainly earned your rest and lots of respect.

I thoroughly enjoyed Ron Ely's Tarzan. Doc Savage came out when I was in college, and I had read a number of the books. I had such fun with the movie as a whole. But when the the young woman declared her eternal gratitude and undying love, and Doc looked deep into her eyes as he declared, "Mona, you're a brick!" I laughed so hard and so long that I could hardly breathe. No one else in the theater even chuckled; I guess folks in Portales didn't understand the British boys' school phrase and meaning. The memory still makes me grin wide.
