The auroras were visible down here tonight!

(NOTE - The HTML code that I've always used for posting photos is messing with me and only partially working. If the photo is not visible, click on the little icon above the embiggen text and the photo will load. Right now all of my old photos will not load as I'm moving the domain of my old web site as something corrupted the old software and I wanted a shorter domain name.)

It has been almost two years since I posted any photos! I have been shooting, not nearly as much as I should, but tonight Russet got notification from her crew at the observatory that the aurora was visible down here! So off we go to the back door, which faces north, and out come the cameras!

(clicken to embiggen)

This was shot with my Canon R6 Mk 2 with the R15-30 zoom at 15mm, f16 for 20 seconds at ISO 25,600. This is a jpeg with no post-processing.

ETA: Very curious! Just posted the same HTML on Live Journal - and the photo popped up just fine! So maybe DW is having an issue at the moment and it'll be fine later? We shall see....

Oh darn. I hadn't heard they were going to be visible again. Of course, where I live, there'd be too much light polution.

That is a nice picture.
I keep my photos on Smug Mug. A couple of years ago I had to start copying the "embed" choice, not the "link" choice, to get my photos to show up. On Smug Mug that leads to making a choice of what resolution to post. Then their program generates link to copy. Not sure if that helps...

What, img src="https://www.photo9000.com/gallery/upload/2025/11/11/20251111223631-923615c8.jpg"/ (in angle brackets) isn't working? Smugmug/Flickr code is basically that, plus extra stuff added to link back to the gallery, to add a mouse-over bit of text and to set the displayed size (like width="640" height="360"). Flickr embed code also includes extra junk which I assume is for business analytics, which I always prune. Works like a charm.

This should be the result, with W x H set to 640 x 360):

Edit to add: OK, I viewed source for your post, the error might be that height isn't defined (width is set at 75%).

I love that photo. I'm so glad that you were ablet to see the aurora and also photograph them. (They were visible here too, but I missed them.)

oooooooo NICE

I got to see them, too -- first time! -- but forgot to bring my cheapass phone camera out, & didn't want to be bothered later when I knew there'd be much better pictures out there.

TRUTH

we've had several 'might be visible' situations over the last couple years, but last week was the first time we could see them from here. of course, the way the sun's been going lately, that could change any night ...

we were actually monitoring the storm in case we had to unplug the solar panels, which was festive, but it (just barely) didn't get THAT bad
