How do you like the concept of going on long-term permanent disablity at age 36?

The woman who rents my condo is doing just that. Culprit: fibromyalgia. I didn't know that her rheumatologist had exhausted all their pharmacy options. She's cleaning out her office at work today, and it will take about 17 months for everything to fall into her place for her to go on to Social Security Disability. Apparently she can earn up to about $700 a month once all this goes into place without jeopardizing anything.

Massively sucks.

Yeah, the GSI (General Suction Index) just buried the needle on that one.

Definitely someone I'll be sending out positive vibes 'n' thinkin' good thoughts for.

GSI! I MUST remember that one!

Thanks for the vibes, I'm rather bumbed. She (Michelle) was my only friend who attended the wedding, I called my best friend in Phoenix (Audrey), she was the best man at my wedding, she's going to try and hook up with Michelle and lend her a shoulder and ear.

Yeah, being able to refer to the GSI can definitely help depending on who you're around. ;}

You're welcome for the vibes. It's always rough to hear about that kind of news happening to someone you care about. I really hope that your friend in Phoenix can hook up and help some.

A very close friend of mine was diagnosed with fibromyalgia at 21. Her doctors pretty much agree that she'll be confined to a wheelchair by the time she's thirty.

She's not even supposed to hold her daughter...

Man, that is so sad, not to be able to hold your daughter! I never really knew about fibromyalgia before Michelle got it, talk about a devastating illness! In some ways you'd be better off with MS or MD, sad to say. At least there you'd have some treatments and therapies.

Well... she does hold Allyson. She just isn't *supposed* to.

There are definitely times when you need to ignore what is "best" for you.

About how much she can earn

Tell her to be very very careful. I used to be a social security disability examiner and I have a blog about this at http://www.disabilityblogger.blogspot.com

You might want to read this post about earned income and disability:

Thank you! I'll point her to it, she's not a blogger but she'll probably read this.

Geez Wayne! You know that Ann has been on short term disability due to the same problem. She maybe seeking the same long term disability. Her short term is up in June. I would like to refer her to that website but she is living with her parents in Payson and they are retired so they do not have the internet( due to set income)
