Mulan & Seven Samurai remakes

Good and bad. I don't see any way they can improve on Seven Samurai, but the concept of Ziyi Zhang as Mulan with a script from the same writer as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon definitely appeals.

Hmmm, a live-action Mulan starring Ziyi Zhang. I'd go see it but I doubt that I'd mistake her for a young man.

As for Seven Samurai, the only role for her that I can think of would be the daughter whose father cuts her hair to pass her off as a boy so the samurai won't rape her. But that was much too small a role for Ziyi Zhang. I guess there is a chance that they'll change all the samurai to women, but that would probably rank as one of the worst remakes of this film (right down there with the gladiator version).

I feel very afraid about the idea of remaking the Seven Samurai. I would sadly expect them to turn it into an action-fest of sword fights and action...missing the heart of the story and characters.

The Mulan, on the other hand, could be quite interesting!

Seven Samurai is Corey's favorite movie. He's going to have a fit when he finds out about plans for a remake. Let's not tell him yet, shall we?

Just make sure he has a nice Criterion Edition nearby so he can hold it and weep.
