Encrypted Ammunition

Someone has been granted a patent that when you pull the trigger on a gun, a radio signal is sent to the bullet in the chamber and the charge only goes off if the correct key is sent.

I'm posting it because the geek comments on Slashdot about this are pretty funny.

It's amusing reading how the comments devolve into the obligatory "guns right" argument.

As for me, I think I'll stick with my unlocked, un-biometrically-enhanced, dangerous, old-fashioned guns. They work so much better for self-defense (which is why I own them in the first place).

I'm quite fond of punching holes in targets, but currently I have no guns. Had quite a collection in my day, including a genuine Walther PPK and a Colt 1851 Navy Squareback black powder revolver.

Alas, they are no more.

Some funny, some insightful, and a good many of them point out the important part of the patent: It's useless.
