BIG Mistake!

Did some stuff around the house today, worked on a photography project, and by the time I started writing for NaNo, Russet gets up. We go down to Alamogordo and have dinner at a new Chinese restaurant (which I quite liked, given Alamo standards...) and eventually get home. (we talked a lot about our stories and she helped me with some stellar astrophysics that might be important to my story]

So we get home, I lie down in my comfy chair to start writing and flip on the tv for some background noise, and I make the mistake of flipping through the channel guide and see that Blazing Saddles is showing on USA. I just had to see what they cut, and there went two hours of writing.

I was quite surprised. The only word they cut was shit. In the church scene where the townspeople are singing a hymn that ends in "this town has gone to shit" they bring up a loud sound of someone mashing down on a pipe organ keyboard. They cut some scenes for time, but it was surprisingly intact.

One thing that blew me away was I pulled up some info online about it (and corrected a bad link in Wikipedia in the process) was that the theme song singer, Frankie Lane, is still alive! He's living out in Point Loma and is still occasionally performing.

Oh, and for those of us doing NaNoWriMo, there's a community for mutual support and encouragement: http://community.livejournal.com/wrimobuddies/.

I happened to catch Blazing Saddles also, and for pretty much the same reasons. I was very pleasantly surprised that the censoring was much, much less restricted. By the way, I always thought that the silliest bit of censoring for the previous tv version was to cut out Lili Von Schtupp's name whenever someone said it, even though there was one scene where you see her name on a poster on the wall behind her.

I wonder, though, if the reason for a less restrictive version was because it was being shown late at night? It started at 1:00 AM here (MST), and I don't know if it was shown earlier in the evening.

I watched it from 10-midnight here, and right now we're on the same time zone.

I wanted to talk to you at the party some, but I forgot until you were heading out the door. Oh, well! Would you be interested in a play-test set of Sucks To Be Me?

Thanks for the offer, but I doubt that I'd get to playtest it much. Most of the people I play games with just aren't that interested in playtesting prototypes, and with all those newly released games from Essen which should be bought by the usual suspects, there'll be less opportunities for me to playtest it in the coming months. Although if you don't need immediate feedback, I should be able to playtest it more thoroughly after the upcoming holiday season.

Which is a roundabout way of saying that if you want to give me a playtest copy when you visit in November, I'd be glad to try it out. Just don't expect any immediate feedback.
