I think Miss South Carolina went to the same schools as GW

"I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because some people out there in our nation don't have maps, and I believe that our education like such as South Africa and the Iraq everywhere like such as, and I believe that they should... our education over here in the U.S should help the U.S or should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future."
-- Miss South Carolina, when asked why so many Americans can't find their own country on a map.

That is such a hideous stream of words.

Wow. Just wow. I thought most pageant winners were supposed to be smart as well as beautiful?

That IS truly appalling. But so much more appropriate to Miss South Carolina's station in life than to the chief executive's. At least she's not hurting anyone (much) with that idiocy.

Everyone seems to glory in ragging on people for poor public speaking, but never considers that they're under pressure and probably very nervous. Plus, the question itself is a bit of a trap. In pageant-land, you are never to be negative in a response, and the way that question is phrased makes that strategy extremely difficult. I'm not surprised the girl was fumbling for an answer. Note how she was trying to throw positive things in about improving education in other countries.
