Doonesbury Say What?

"If there is anything that I can do in terms of assisting there and allowing the credence, the credibility that that great vocation, that cornerstone of our democracy called the press, if I can help build up that credibility in the press and allow the electorate to know that they can believe everything that is reported through the airwaves and through print, I want to be able to help."
-- Sarah Palin to Larry King

The thing that I find frightening is that it's possible she believes what she's saying, and she could become the next Republican mega-personality. The press is far, far too gone through media consolidations to be blanket trusted, you really need to gather news from multiple sources if you want accurate info.

That's so out of context it's impossible to judge her meaning. I don't find those words alone all that frightening. In fact, if Palin's name wasn't attached to that to raise the hackles of those with a negative opinion about her, the statement would be rather noble. I bet if Obama's name was falsely appended, people would be swooning.

No matter who said that, I would think that they were either utterly, dangerously deluded or cynically trying to manipulate people. Maybe both.
