Actually, about one, maybe two generations, if you want to avoid being hyperbolic.

That said, I think this is a better example of "If you lie to people enough, eventually they will believe the lie." After saying for so long that it was a baby-killing bill, which was a lie, when he voted for it, Stupak pretty well sealed his fate to receive calls like this. That doesn't make it acceptable, just that it was bound to happen.
