News of the FUD of American cell phone companies

(FUD = fear, uncertainty and doubt)

Recently a trade show and congress for the cellular industry wrapped up. This Infoworld article decodes a lot of the buzz and double-speak and explains what the cell industry really is saying and wants.

In short: give us more money for less service or we'll whine more. Text messages are a classic example. They cost the cell networks all but zero, yet they charge stupid rates for it. And some providers have found a way to force you into a text plan! And I especially like the "don't let the government regulate us, at the same time we want the government to give us free stuff" stuff.

The perverse incentives for corporations, all in a nice article nutshell. They'll try to get as much for free, charge the most to deliver the least, and dodge any sort of accountability or regulation.
