California bill would block Texas text books from CA

This I like. I do not like the direction Texas is taking with revising history to a fundamentalist agenda. They hold tremendous power in the text book market through their purchasing power, and lots of school districts default their book selection to copy Texas'. California is saying No, and with a powerful voice. They also buy lots of books, and they also don't like the fundy stand that Texas is taking.

GO CALIFORNIA!

I'd actually like to read one of the TX books to see what it actually says vs. what the media wants to tell me it says. ;-)

BTW, your first link goes nowhere.

Edit: the link is working now. I think my aggressive pop-up blocker was nuking the feed. Nevermind.

I'm glad the link problem was your popup blocker, I always try to copy the link directly from a browser window, so I would think that they should always work unless the original had been relocated on whatever host site.

One of the Slashdot stories pointed to a story on the Guardian UK that had quite an article: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/may/16/texas-schools-rewrites-us-history.

From what I have said, I do not agree with the changes. But like you point out, we don't have the text books to really see what exactly is going on.

Agreed.

So, we might have the "Heartland Values" version and the "San Francisco Values" versions of the textbooks? Wonder how many of each style would be bought by the other states...
