Doonesbury Say What?

"I don't know about you, but I'm not ready to be extinct, and none of us wants to be. So we don't want genocide. We don't want to destroy the sacred institution of marriage...Marriage between one man and one woman remains the guard against human extinction."
-- MLK niece Alveda King on gay marriage

*sigh* Gay people are what percentage of the population? And the subset of gay people who want to get married are what smaller percentage?

I can think of five, count them, FIVE couples that I met when they were single in the 80's or 90's who are having children. This is not counting relatives, just personal friends.

Somehow I don't think the numbers would support gay marriage equating racial extinction.

Not to mention that gay couples are not always childless. And not all hetero couples have, or even want, children. Last I checked, we did not have compulsory procreation laws. Seriously, this argument doesn't even make sense. Some people will grasp at any argument, no matter how flimsy, won't they?

The guard against human extinction is successful reproduction. Marriage has nothing to do with it. If we really wanted to guard against extinction, we'd make it okay for men and women to bone whomever they want and to have as many kids as possible, and we'd support them in that endeavour with programs and incentives.

[snark on] We didn't have kids because we didn't want to make any more gay people. [snark off]

Is she really comparing recognizing the right for gay people to marry to genocide? Really?

Where do they find these people?

Someone is missing a few brain cells, famous uncle or no.

Legalizing gay marriage <> forcing only gay marriage
