It's been a tough year for tech innovators

I just read that Jack Goldman died. Chances are that 99+% of people will say 'who?', and that's understandable. Jack was a manager: he ran the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center, known as PARC. PARC was responsible for: Ethernet, laser printers, the graphic user interface, all sorts of amazing things. He didn't invent things per se, but he managed a facility that let brilliant minds flourish and produce amazing things.

In addition to the passing of Dennis Ritchie and Steve Jobs, in late October we also lost John McCarthy, the man who invented the LISP language and coined the phrase Artificial Intelligence.
