"Very much like Nazi Germany...We now live in a society where people are afraid to say what they actually believe."
—Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient and Fox News contributor Dr. Ben Carson, on America

Wow, irony much? Clearly if we were living in a totalitarian state, you wouldn't be able to say that. Do these people think that politicians and the government don't watch Fox Newts, or does Fox transmit on a frequency that even the NSA can't monitor?

In an interesting article in The Atlantic recently, Marco Rubio demonstrated that he doesn't know what Totalitarian means. I'm thinking that maybe 'Totalitarian' is the talking point word of the week for the RNC. He had a great quote at CPAC: “All the problems of the world, all the conflicts of the world, are being created by totalitarian regimes.” So apparently the housing bubble and bust was due to a Totalitarian Wall Street.

Maybe he doesn't actually know anything about Nazi Germany, just that it's the go-to phrase for people who don't like being criticised for acting like jackasses.

They might be afraid, but it's not the government whose retribution they fear.
