It's just a bit of a pity they couldn't push the price down further, given it's going to be basically a novelty for the great majority of buyers, I suspect, unless they can demonstrate its efficacy in, say, determining meat freshness (though there, I'd simply sniff and inspect).

All the same, it's fairly nifty to see something like that possible.

Ah, I miss the organic chemistry labs.. gas spectroscopy was fun. =:D

A friend of mine has a doctorate in acoustics, he invented and patented a way of doing some gas spectroscopy with sound waves, he's very interested in getting the SDK to this puppy.
