Leif Erickson Day
The Vikings were driven out by the Micmac tribes in Canada. Therefore, Leif Erickson Day can celebrate both the frontiering spirit of Europeans and the Natives who fought back successfully.
1412 ain't nothing. The Vikings did it in 1000, and quite possibly Irish Monks did it hundreds of years earlier than that.
It was just that the Spanish managed to hold on long enough until everyone came for the pie.
