Possible evidence that supports the book "1412: The Year The Chinese Discovered America"

A map is being authenticated in China that could support the assertion that the Chinese "discovered" America decades before Columbus set foot in the Carribean.

If we still got the day off on Columbus Day I'd shush you but since we don't, I say we have Chinese Day and get that day off instead.

We should have Leif Erickson Day.

The Vikings were driven out by the Micmac tribes in Canada. Therefore, Leif Erickson Day can celebrate both the frontiering spirit of Europeans [i]and[/i] the Natives who fought back successfully.

1412 ain't nothing. The Vikings did it in 1000, and quite possibly Irish Monks did it hundreds of years earlier than that.

It was just that the Spanish managed to hold on long enough until everyone came for the pie.

Absolutely. I was reading a book from the 1950's about the Viking explorations (and their occasionally getting wiped out by the locals) and their trying to set up camps and such. Cool stuff. I've always thought the vikings etc. got the short end of the historical stick.

I should expand on my previous comment a bit. According to the book, the Chinese sailed around the world and mapped most of it. Though the Vikings certainly preceeded them, the Vikings were largely limited to the North Atlantic.
