RIP: Laura Lynch, founding member of The Dixie Chicks

She died from injuries sustained in a car accident outside of El Paso, TX. She was 65.

The band was initially formed as a quartet, subsequent changes saw it change to a trio, Lynch leaving, and the ultimate name change to The Chicks. Lynch was co-lead vocalist, then lead vocalist, before leaving the band almost 25 years ago.

This Variety article is a very nice tribute and information source:

Laura Lynch (musician) on Wikipedia has always been a redirect to the band. Anybody up for expanding it into a biography? This in Variety goes beyond most of the coverage and would be citable along with Rolling Stone.

I didn't realize there had been other members.
RIP Ms. Lynch.

Same here, I mostly stopped listening to C&W music after the 70s. :o

While I have listened to some of The Chicks, mostly before they were known as such, I hadn't realized they started as a quartet before becoming a trio. It sounds like the situation of being pushed out of the group was not terrible for Mrs. Lynch, at least. Still, 65 is a young age.
