WOW. Such a great wrap-up to the current series.

While the theater wasn't packed, it was fairly full. We saw the second-to-last showing Sunday night - they ran three out of ten theaters through Saturday, then dropped one for Sunday, so LOTS of locals had an opportunity - I have no idea how many did. Sadly, the local theater needs brighter projection, and should have had the sound turned up a notch or two.

I can confirm the RunPee/HuffPo bathroom times were good and the "Hulk's Lunch" "New Jersey sign" are quite obvious - you're not going to miss them, though we were there from the start through the end of the credits. I strongly cut down my normal water intake for about 4 hours before the movie, and that comfortably saw me through.

Lest you think me a cinema misanthrope, I do enjoy sophisticated movies. Two of the best movies that I saw in the last couple of years were Phantom Thread, Run Lola Run, and Wings of Desire. But Life kinda sucks overall and I really enjoy certain types of comedies and adventure movies and used to buy comics for a couple of decades, so I really enjoy these films.

Everybody gets their own kind of brain candy and secret vices to enjoy IMO, mostly as long you don't wake the neighbors or frighten the horses.

It's kinda funny - on the way down the mountain to the movie, we discussed plot elements to the new fic that Russet's working on, crossing over Midsomer Murders and Rivers of London. On the way home, it was discussing the movie all the way!

Spoilery stuff under the cut.

That open! Wow, started with a bang and just kept going!

I was wondering what was going on with the white uniforms, now we know they were for time travel.

I correctly called the deaths of Iron Man and Captain America! I knew the actors were wanting out of the series, and this was the time to do it.

The all-woman Avengers squad saving Spider-Man? AWESOME! It's going to make so many Sad Puppies all the more sad!

Such an incredible fight, I'm really looking forward to getting it on DVD so I can watch it brighter and in slo-mo and see what was going on.

Cap wielding Mjolnir!!!

Cap finally getting Peggy!!!!!

Thor MPREG! This was one of my wife's very happy moments! Absolutely loved The Big Thor Lebowski! Thorbowski? There's going to be some AO3 stories on that one!

So the final losses were: Vision (murdered by Thanos), Black Widow (self-sacrifice), Gamora (sacrificed by Thanos, resurrected in an earlier timeline via time travel), Iron Man (snappening Thanos and his invasion fleet), and Captain America (chose to live a full life after returning all the Infinity Stones).

Possible Loss: Loki (apparently killed by Thanos, but he is the Trickster God of Mischief. Plus, he's not an Avenger).

I was pleased to see lots of Asgardians survived the destruction of Asgard and the attack on their ship by Thanos and its subsequent destruction. How they survived when the ship was destroyed and Thor was ejected into space, to be rescued by the Guardians of the Galaxy, I dunno. But of a plot hole there.

Loved seeing Pepper Stark nee Pots in Iron Man armor fighting in the end! Does she have an official superhero name? And I thought I saw multiple Iron Man armor fighting in the final battle. Another thing that I want to look for in a re-watch, and we're definitely going to see it in the theater at least another 1-2 times.

"Hail Hydra!" ROFLMAO! I was SO looking forward to another elevator fight, and then Cap whispers the magic words and walks away with the scepter!

It was nice seeing the two guys from Ragnarok in Asgard. Also a bit of a call-back to some of the bonus materials on the two Thor home releases.

One thing that's kind of sad is it leaves Bruce/Hulk without a serious tech head to talk to, but he does have an April/October peer group now: Shuri/Hank Pym. I expect more of the emphasis on the former.

One problem that I have with the movie. I'm OK with them being hand-wavy re: time travel. But five years have passed since The Snappening. Tony and Pepper are married, and he tells Hulk to rewind the universe AND preserve the last five years. I can see the Infinity Gauntlet being good for killing half of all life, that I can accept. I can accept the IG mk 2 rewinding time since Doc Strange can do it - but then you're rewinding things by adding the wish of preserving the last five years so Tony can keep his family. Russet and I were discussing Tony and self-sacrifice on the way home - in the first Avengers movie, he flies the nuke through the hole in space to wipe-out Ronan's fleet, and he gets to keep his little house in the country and his little girl for a little while.

But consider half of the world population wiped out, suddenly coming back, and the world has leap-frogged five years past you. Grandma and grandpa are dead, your best friend took his life because of your vanishing, your dad died in a car accident. They weren't Un-snappened. If the "except for the last five years" clause wasn't added-in, they would be here. But at the same time, The Avengers wouldn't have the time machine post-battle to return the Infinity Stones to their starting points.

So it's a combination of The Trolley Problem and time loop paradox, all in one bright red bow.

That's all my thoughts. Gotta get ready for the library.

Also, Peggy getting Steve back. It works both ways for those two, if I understood correctly. My only question is "Whatever happened to Daniel Sousa?" That joins the list of loose ends from Agent Carter.

Pepper's superhero name is "Rescue".

You can add Erik Selvig, Jane Foster, and a few others to that peer group for Banner.

It wasn't Ronan's fleet in the first movie, but the Chitauri home-ship that Tony nuked with that SHIELD weapon. Mildly surprised that the Chitauri weren't able to ECM that sucker in retrospect.
