I mean, Internet of Things is not the smartest or best idea ever, like, at all, but these sorts of things, where perfectly good stuff has a weakness identified and the response is "upgrade to something new," those are the sorts of things that make you want to legislate into existence a mandatory update requirement for any and all products if a vulnerability of sufficient damage is found in them, even if they haven't been commercially available for years, because there's going to be someone, probably a lot of someone, who are using that product and need their vulnerabilities patched.
