It is an inflection point in society. On the boon/bane scale, I'm thinking it's two parallel vertical bar graphs and they're both going up and down with some frequency right now. It'll be settling out slowly over time as it becomes more integrated into society as individuals adapt to using it. One thing is for sure - it's not going to go away, and pace of development is not going to slow down, there's too much money behind it for that to happen.
