Dock-a-noodle-foo!
Jul. 2nd, 2005 06:41 am(for those of you who have read Terry Pratchett's Reaper Man or are familiar with dyslexic roosters)
It's been a while since I've heard a rooster at 06:early. I went to bed last night at about 10:30, perhaps the earliest that I've been to bed, excluding time zone shifts, in over a month.
And 7.5 hours later, I'm awake.
7.5 hours seems to be my ideal sleep time. If I am reasonably well rested, I will usually get up about that long after going to bed, not counting occasional bathroom breaks. Last night was no exception. Slept quite well, even if the beds in Aunt Odella's house are rather too soft for me. I made a final stop yesterday afternoon in Cloudcroft at the Mountaintop Mercantile for two more gallons of cherry cider (which I'm sure Apostate will be happy to hear, I have four gallons in the back of my truck for various people in Phoenix) and also snagged a cranberry muffin. Woke up this morning feeling a bit peckish as my only meal yesterday, save the same flavor but slightly older cousin of my cranberry muffin in the AM, yesterday's dinner with My Wife (I do enjoy saying that!) was pretty much all I ate yesterday.
Unfortunately I left said muffin in the truck, so I had to put on clothes to go outside rather than laze around the house in my bathrobe.
As it seems to be doing in many places across the Southwest, it's getting bloody hot in Las Cruces. It's gamely pushing towards 110f, and walking outside today at 6am, you can feel that it's going to build up in very little time to a scorcher.
Little matter. I'll have my A/C on in my Rodeo and be zipping across the desert listening to who knows what.
Oh, have you heard about the satellite that NASA is going to shoot a 300lb slug of copper into in the early AM of the 4th of July? (fireworks to commemorate my parent's 49th anniversary) I was about half way across the White Sands area between Alamogordo and Las Cruces and listened to a good report on this on NPR, after said report was over, My Wife called and told me that Apache Point would be watching said collision! Unfortunately it will be kind of low on the horizon, so they'll be doing mainly infrared on it, still, should be cool! I'm looking forward to seeing the take on it when I'm back up there next weekend. Oh, My Wife is also going to be the telescope operator when the collision happens, so that's also cool. They mentioned that Kitt Peak (Tucson, AZ) is apparently where the people in charge of the program will be watching from, I hope they get cruddy weather, they should have gone to Cloudcroft (snark!).
I finally got my membership to Phoenix ConGames, a new local game convention to be held July 21-24 in Mesa, AZ. I'm looking forward to it, because as of right now, I'm not running any demos! I'd like to run some for my pseudo-company, Spare Brains Games, but I just won't have enough time to get something together. But I'm planning on getting a hotel room for Saturday night, so I'll be able to do some late-night gaming without let or hinder. Should be fun!
And since I watched The Incredibles Thursday night with My Wife, I shall say 'Bomb Voyage!'
