I finally saw the dentist today, a general x-ray/cleaning appointment. It's Russet's doctor, and she's pretty happy with their operation, so I gave them a shot. They're booked two months in advance, so lots of patience is required. In their favor, they called the other day at 8am (Friday IIRC) and offered an appointment that day at 11am, I declined, I'd gone to see Corpse Bride after school that night and hadn't gotten home until 1am or so.
It's been 4 1/2+ years since I've seen a dentist and apprehension was high. I'm not having any particular problems, I'm a conscientious brusher, but my flossing has fallen by the wayside of late. So LOTS of apprehension!
Everything was good! No cavities, and I didn't get bitched at for not flossing. Perhaps my up-front confession disarmed them. I have a tooth that was a little sensitive to cold, but that seems to have gone away. The dentist was a little concerned about receding gums, which was normally considered a sign of gum disease, but he said there was no evidence of anything aside from simply receding gums. His only advice was to not use tarter control toothpaste, I should have asked him why. No big deal as I've never used that type of toothpaste anyway.
After the dentist I had a few errands to run, basically wanted to maximize getting stuff done since I was already down the mountain on a non-school day. Shot a roll of film, developed two rolls (will do proof sheets and maybe a couple of prints later). Went to four stores to find a case for my new cell phone to no avail, I'll have to hit up Best Buy when I'm in Phoenix over the weekend. Stopped at a Honda dealership to get some info on the Element and eliminated it from my 'interested in' list (we're going to be getting a new vehicle for me in a week or so, hopefully before the snow starts in earnest). Had lunch. Now will go to the Toyota dealership and get some more info.
The vehicles that I was most interested in were the Honda Element, the Toyota Matrix, and the Subaru Forester. I'm also going to get info on Toyota trucks and the Rav-4 and Highlander, though I doubt the latter will be a contender. There are three main points steering the selection: all-wheel drive (preferably with limited slip differential), better mileage, and reasonable cargo capacity. The Matrix has the advantage of the Subaru in that it can be serviced in Alamogordo, El Paso or Las Cruces are the closest Subaru dealerships. I'm not considering American vehicles, I've been driving imports (mostly assembled in the USA) for over 20 years and based on my experience and the anacdotes of people with American cars, I've made the best choice and see no reason to reconsider it.
I'd hoped and tentatively planned to go to the observatory tonight, but I tend to doubt that'll happen. I'll do some more darkroom work then head back up the mountain to home.
