Got pulled over!
Oct. 22nd, 2005 10:36 amTonight is the Halloween Party/Wedding Reception in Phoenix. The original plan was to drive down Thursday, but Russ was feeling a bit off. So rather than leave early Thursday and drive all day (it's 500 miles, so a bit of a drive), she went back to bed and we went down later and spent the night with an aunt in Las Cruces. It knocks a good chunk off the drive, almost a hundred miles.
So we headed out Friday, our one absolute objective was we had to get to Chivalry Sports for this little goodie. They closed at 5pm, we made it with plenty of time. That was followed by a wonderful meal at El Charro Cafe and a goodly amount of time at perhaps the best used bookstore that I've ever known, Bookman's. A good day.
We start the final leg from Tucson to Phoenix, and just N of Casa Grande I get pulled over! I wasn't speeding, I knew my tags were current, so I was a little surprised. Turned out that the license plate bulb was burned out. He wrote me a warning, so no big deal. We had a good time talking, I told him I'd worked with Phoenix PD for nine years, we swapped a couple of stories, I went on my way. I had two other bulbs that I needed to replace, now I have three. No big deal. No ticket was inolved, so I don't mind. There's no telling if a New Mexico patrolman would have let me off with a warning.
I haven't had a ticket in AZ in over ten years. My last was when I had an accident (caused by a fourth car not in the accident and not identified, it was not my fault except through a technicality), I had a speeding ticket in New Mexico a few years later which was my carelessness, and I had one last Thanksgiving in NM for not having proof of insurance on me. A fax took care of that one. So mostly I'm either a good boy, don't get caught, or they think I'm just not worth it.
Arrived at my parent's house around 9:30 or so, had a bit of apprehension with Celeste meeting my parent's/brother's dogs. All went reasonably well, but we're keeping an eye on two of them. I brought our wireless router so we could plug it into my dad's router and have access with our laptops from our bedroom. Russ needs to watch the happenings at the observatory, I need to do some consulting. Unfortunately it didn't turn out to be plug & play. We had some configuration problems, which was a little weird, but it turned out to be pretty simple: we had two DHCP servers on the same network (a totally useless reference to anyone who isn't a networking person). Eventually I got that straightened out and off to bed.
Today is going to be pretty active. Heading over to Rich & Karyn's to help with decorating, I'm sure Russet will sleep a lot, and I've got some shopping to do to finish up my costume. Should be busy.
