I refuse to pay dealer prices to upgrade a car stereo with a new vehicle. It's substandard equipment (usually) at exorbitant prices. But I'm also kinda on the poor side. So I decided there were two things that I was going to get out of our tax return. The first as my new Palm Pilot, the second was a better car stereo.

The objective was to get a car stereo that had an auxillary input so that we could plug Russet's iPod into it, or either of our laptops since both have MP3s loaded on it with iTunes. The basic problem is that the FM transmitter method of playing MP3s through your car stereo really sucks.

Well, we got our tax return a couple of weeks ago, and last week I had a new car stereo installed! It's a Kenwood, which is a brand that I have never owned before but knew they had a pretty solid reputation. It has the aux input, and it also plays MP3 CDs! So I made one, and it plays quite well. Quite well EXCEPT when I have it on random play! I don't know what's going on yet, but apparently it's skipping a bit. But it only skips in random play! If I am playing the MP3 CD sequentially, it plays just fine.

The disc is an official MP3 CD burned by iTunes, but it's a little different from the directory structure that the manual says it should be. So Wednesday night or Thursday I'll make another and test it further.

They recently did some gigs in Cafilornia. I still find it quite amusing that Disney is sponsoring a bunch of children singing a song about masturbation.

Internet neutrality is a good thing. Yes, AT&T and others own huge amounts of copper and fiber. They deserve to profit from their investments. But going to a tiered internet where you have to pay what amounts to extortion money to get the traffic to your web site visible is ridiculous. They're already getting money from the lower tier carriers and ISPs that route traffic across their lines, this looks like pure greed (and extortion) to me.
