Laptop hard drive replacement en route!

I might actually get it Tuesday. I bought a 100gig Western Digital from Fry's Outpost.com site, got it for $130 with (theoretical) next day delivery, so hopefully I'll be able to start rebuilding my laptop then.

The drive hasn't totally failed, I'm using my laptop right now. But it was giving me fits Saturday and Sunday, so it's time for it to go. I'm still not sure what I'm going to do about Overstock.com, I'll wait for the twits to call me and we'll see what's what. I would love to have them replace the case: it has two stress cracks, but it's never been dropped! Besides, the place where the cracks are aren't points that you could drop it on, it would take some very creative trajectory.

It occurred to me as I pulled in the driveway tonight that I do have a 30gig laptop HD here: my MP3 laptop. But I don't have my system CD, so it would be a bit of a challenge to transplant it and get it running again. I have the same prob with the drive arriving tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure I can transfer the OS. It's going to take some work, but when I succeed it will reassert and reaffirm my alpha geek status. ;-)

Woman sues doctors: treated for ovarian cancer, has cancer of the appendix

Here's the kicker: the lawsuit claims the treatments damaged their sexual relationship, and they're lesbians.

I've never heard of appendix cancer, I guess any organ can get it. I definitely don't get how the doctors could make such a misdiagnosis, unless the ovaries are right next to the appendix. I don't know enough about anatomy except to know that there's a bunch of stuff down there in the pelvic girdle.

Lesbian couple files malpractice suit

STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) -- A lesbian couple filed a medical malpractice lawsuit Tuesday claiming cancer treatments damaged their sexual relationship. Their attorneys say it is the first lawsuit of its kind under Connecticut's civil unions law.

Margaret Mueller and Charlotte Stacey are suing two doctors, accusing them of treating Mueller for ovarian cancer when she actually had cancer of the appendix. They contend Mueller underwent years of devastating chemotherapy treatments while the real cancer spread.

"I think it's any patient's worst fear that everything they're doing to treat themselves is for naught," said Joshua Koskoff, an attorney for the couple.

Connecticut's civil union law, passed last year, allowed Stacey also to sue for the harm to her relationship, known as a loss of consortium claim, Koskoff said. Before the law gave gay couples the same legal rights as heterosexual married couples in Connecticut, only a married partner could seek that compensation.

Attorneys for the doctors, Iris Wertheim and Isidore Tepler, say the two provided appropriate care for a complex illness.

Eric Stockman, Wertheim's attorney, said he does not plan to challenge Stacey's right to be added to the lawsuit.

Mueller and Stacey were domestic partners for 21 years and were joined in a civil union on Nov. 12, 2005, according to the lawsuit.

The original lawsuit was filed earlier this year on Mueller's behalf. The new lawsuit was amended in Stamford Superior Court to seek damages on Stacey's behalf as well.

It looks like Palladium Games may survive

You may recall an older post by me talking about the possible death of Palladium? Well, apparently they've had a massive show of support and are still kicking. They've managed to clear a lot of debt and things are looking better, though they're not out of the woods yet. They've issued an updated product release schedule that also has a financial status report about half way down the page.

I just thought I'd provide an update. I personally don't really care for their products, but I have enjoyed some of their stuff in the past.
