Another example of corporate weirdness
Nov. 2nd, 2006 08:29 pmMy Palm Pilot started goofing up last week and is now pretty much totally dead. $300 piece of electronics, not much more than six months old, and it has a one year manufacturer's warranty.
But because I bought it from Staples, not Palm, Palm won't do anything about it. I have to do everything throught Staples.
*sigh*
As an added bonus, my laptop, upon which I do all of my game development work and NaNoWriMo writing, is acting up. It's having problems coming out of hibernation, I'm getting ACPI BSODs and occasionally an error message saying that the hibernation file is corrupt and it cannot load from that. There's a slim possibility that the hard drive is going bad, but the drive is only four months old, so I doubt it's that.
So right now, even as we speak (or even as I type), I'm installing XP Pro on it. If the errors continue, it should prove that it is a hardware issue and I'll probably have to send it back to those twits in Illinois (IIRC) who replaced the system board back in June/July.
I'm hoping that the install is doing an upgrade installation so that I don't have to reinstall my software, but if it's not, it's not. I emailed my NaNoWriMo story to myself, so I can write on my work desktop while my personal laptop plays with itself. And play with itself it shall as I'll have beaucoup updates to install once it's done. Fortunately our install disk is SP2 and has numerous other updates slipstreamed onto it, so it won't be like loading the OS from scratch.
