An interesting business concept: buy a music CD online, they send you the CD, but you can download MP3s immediately! Fairly nifty business model. Unfortunately only one label bought in to it, so he was missing 80% of most of the American music market. The company is going out of business and holding an "Everything Must Go" sale with the same deal, only now the albums are $7 and you still get the MP3 tracks.

I'm definitely going to be spending some money there tonight, they've got Mark Knopfler's catalog and some of my discs were damaged.

Ever heard of Media Defender?

Media Defender works with the RIAA and MPAA and poisons torrents, among other things. Quite possibly an illegal activity, but since they're working for humongoid trade organizations, it's probably OK. Well, they got hacked. Big surprise! And Media Defender's email archives, along with some recorded calls with the New York State Attorney General's office, have been posted online.

New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo admits that he's using Media Defender to gather evidence of kiddie porn. Many AG's in other states are more than a little concerned about this, specifically re: potential future conflicts of interest. Usually it's the job of law enforcement to gather evidence.
