"We're fucked."
-- An employee for a NASCAR race team, on his sport's future. Twelve of 42 cars lack a sponsor for the Daytona 500.

I didn't know this, but I'm not surprised. They require some pretty serious sponsorship, and with the biggest companies getting hit hardest by the downturn (proportionately-speaking), things like Nascar and Indy are really going to get hit.

They've switched their submarines to Microsoft Windows.

Talk about a blue screen of death.

I just hope they're totally sealed systems with no available USB ports: the US Army in Iraq has been having a terrible time with viruses and trojans from people bringing in infected flash drives and porn movies.

In fact, the US Navy tried a Windows-based ship a few years back and it was an abject failure. I just hope it doesn't prove to be the same for the Brits.

Age 76, leukemia. She had finished her voiceover work on Abram's new Star Trek film. I saw her MANY years ago at San Diego ComicCon. It was a Thursday morning, the lowest attendance point of the con. She was sitting at a table, no one around her, signing books or something. I didn't feel it appropriate to interrupt her quiet time, so I didn't bother her. Still, it's kinda cool to see someone that close up.
