This week Doonesbury is doing a strip about Texas and their new law that if a woman wants an abortion, she must first have a trans-vaginal sonogram performed by having a plastic wand inserted into her vagina. Trudeau has provided an alternative series of strips for papers who don't want to expose their readers to it, but the web site is running the one addressing the issue.

"When presented with all the information, every person can make the right choice, the only choice, life."
— Governor Rick Perry, explaining the purpose of the Texas sonogram bill to a group of pastors

Then again, I don't think that I've heard the term Compassionate Conservatives slung around much recently. Take a woman who has been raped or molested, and force her to be penetrated again in order to get an abortion? Real nice there, Rick et al.

I wonder how long until the women in Texas realize that if they vote, they could take Perry out of office along with every other male legislator. The president of Planned Parenthood was on The Daily Show last week talking about the numbers of people that they service, and that for a lot of women, their checkup at Planned Parenthood may be their only medical visit.

There was an amazing article on the NPR website recently about a Latino elected to the Phoenix City Council by mobilizing the Latino vote, and the groundswell of getting people educated and registered (i.e. empowered) was amazing, so much that Obama's campaign sent a staffer out to study them. Aside from shooting themselves in the foot with great repeatability, I think if Obama can do a decent job of mobilizing the Latino and women vote, the RNC stands even less of a chance than it does right now.

And could lead to a number of illnesses. The basic issue is that as your eyes age, they filter more blue light, and they've linked this lack of blue light to various problems. Solution? Replacing the lens surgically with one that doesn't filter blue.

There were some very interesting Slashdot comments on people who had their lenses replaced and others who had circadian problems.
