Gotta take the other position
Apr. 19th, 2014 09:25 am"I would much rather have -- and I will say this to anybody's face -- somebody who drank and drank too much taking care of my child than I had somebody whose lifestyle is questionable around children. Because that ain't the damn way it's supposed to be...I'm not going to let two women stand up there and hold hands and let my child be aware of it."
—Mayor Earl Bullard of Latta, South Carolina, on firing longtime police chief Crystal Moore, who is a lesbian
Though my parents never drank and I drink very little, I've known families that had big problems with alcoholism. I would happily hire a lesbian over an alcoholic for such a job. Heck, I'd hire a lesbian over an alcoholic for any job simply because I wouldn't hire an alcoholic as they're not reliable by definition.
I wonder how much outrage people like this would feel if they had a relative who was a certified teacher and couldn't get a job, then applied for one at a school for LGBTQs and they told said relative 'no, we can't hire you because you're not gay and you might try to molest our kids.'
