"Does anybody really believe that a reporter, who nobody ever heard of, 'went to his mailbox,' and found my tax returns?"
-- Trump tweet re Pulitzer-winning NYT reporter David Cay Johnston, who received and released two pages of Trump's 2005 tax return
"Donald's had my home phone number for years. He's called me at home in the past."
-- Johnston
Of course no one has heard of Johnston, he only has a Pulitzer Prize.
The two pages tell absolutely nothing. They report that "45" made a lot of money, and that he paid a lot in taxes. It doesn't detail the income sources, nor does it show charitable contributions. These two pages are pretty much worthless in terms of information value.
There was a good point made last night: 2005 was the year that he married his current wife, and she was not then a U.S. citizen. Part of the citizenship process requires that you produce 3 years of certified tax returns, so you can guarantee that 2005-2007 were absolutely spotless.
Previous leaks of information regarding the Cheetoh Benito were actually post-stamped Trump Tower.
