I saw the Barbie movie today
Aug. 26th, 2023 11:50 pmAnd absolutely loved it!
It was one of the most amusing movies that I've seen in some time, I got a lot of very much needed laughs out of it. And the end credits showed a lot of the old 'friends of' dolls that were part of the Barbie line-up, some quite briefly (Sugar Daddy Ken? Magic Earing Ken?)
This is one of the best B movies that I've seen in ages. Period. Full stop. I purposely wanted to see it in the theater and contribute to its theatrical run gross because the "Conservatives" are getting their knickers in such a twist over it, and now plan on buying a copy when it's released to further enrich the makers.
All of the performances were great, obviously Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling nailed it, but Rhea Perlman has an outstanding and outstandingly important roll. The appearance of Will Ferrell tells you exactly how seriously to take the movie. Like I said, solid B movie. And a voice-over by Helen Miren! Famous costume designer Ann Roth has a cameo on a public bus bench.
It was charming and touching and I am very glad it ate the results of more than an hour of my labor (library pay sucks).
Oh, and they actually used a snippet of Aqua's Barbie World in the end credits! Speaking of end credits, once they start to roll, there's no point to hanging in the theater unless you want to.
