Cloning meat-producing cows and pigs?

The FDA says it's ok, though lamb does not yet have approval to be cloned. They also had no problems with cow parts being fed back to cows (BSE/CJD) and genetic manipulation of grain (insecticide-resistant crops). And the FDA doesn't see a need for cloned meat to require any labeling indicating it is such.

The good news: the cloned meat won't be on the shelves at Walmart next week. The cloned cows cost 10x what raising a normal cow costs, so the initial work in this field will be to select the lines that produce the best beef, then clone them.

The bad news: we'll find out in 10-20 years when people rise from their graves and start eating the brains of the living. Hey! Maybe sales of Zombie Cafe will take off then!


I don't think this is a good idea. We were told that genetically-manipulated grain was perfectly safe. To be fair, it hasn't been shown to be dangerous, but they weren't anticipating that the modified grain would further mutate and become insecticide-resistant, but it did and now it's wreaking havoc with the organic growers. Funny thing: seeds fly through the air! Who'uda thunk it? No one anticipated prions when they started feeding slaughter house scraps back to cows. So what is cloned meat going to do to people in 10-20 years?
