PLEASE keep a wired keyboard and mouse around!

I'm currently trying to fix multiple infections on my dad's computer, and in doing so, I want to boot into Safe Mode. One big problem -- wireless keyboard and mouse. The driver for said devices doesn't load until Windows is well into its startup. So you can't flip the computer into safe mode without a wired keyboard!

PITB, but keep the junkie keyboard that came with your computer around, just in case.

Thats similar to the problem I have with my Mac and trying to get BootCamp running.

Oh, I can install Bootcamp fine and all that, but the *only* copy of Windows XP SP 2 that I have is buried on a cd that requires a couple of keypresses to work through the DOS menu type thing.

Trouble is, the USB keyboard and mouse aren't recognised at all! :)
So while it boots from the CD fine, I cant select the bloody option to install it!

I'm quite surprised at this, since the BIOS on all the computers I've put together in the last few years manages to recognize wireless keyboards and mice just fine, much less the OS.

Maybe it's brand-dependent. I mostly use Microsoft wireless input devices, so perhaps the receiver chunk does a better job of disguising itself to the computer, making it look like an ordinary keyboard and mouse.
