Toshiba announced that it is ceasing production the day after Walmart announced that it will no longer sell HD-DVD's.

As I understood it, HD was technically a better spec than Blu-Ray, but for once Sony got its marketing shit together and won a format battle. Personally, I don't care because my TV is an old 19"ish color that needs to be degaussed. My Mac has a better display, but the TV is larger and hooked up to a player that will play certain DVD's that my laptop won't (not to mention my LaserDiscs), for example, the first disc of Ben-Hur (1959) and the first disc of Sergio Leone's Man With No Name collection, A Fistfull of Dollars. Neither disc will play on my Mac, the rest of the discs will. I swear, one of these days I'm going to download a ripper and re-burn those things just so I can play them on my laptop.

If we ever get a monster HD screen, then we'll consider a Blu-Ray player.
