It's really not a big deal, still, I'm proud of it. It's a Sekonic L-398, and the best thing about this puppy is that short of physical destruction, it's pretty much immortal. It doesn't have a battery – it's powered by a selenium cell which is a photovoltaic, i.e., it generates electricity when exposed to light. Coincidentally, a light meter measures the light to which it is exposed, so functionally you have a volt meter connected to this photo cell, only instead of volts, the scale is calibrated in lumens with a circular calculator to tell you the proper f-stop/shutter speed for correct exposure.

It took all of about five minutes and an eyeglasses screwdriver. Unfortunately I had to pervert said screwdriver, it was a flat-head and I used it in a Philips screw. The funny thing is that the part required ran about $4.50, the shipping was $5.

And when I say functionally immortal, I mean it: my meter is over 20 years old. It still looks good as I keep it in its case

Still, quite happy! And I've got one of my wedding photos of Russet and I as my wallpaper, and I shrink my Word window and get to see Russet in her wedding dress looking at me and smiling. But then again, simple things amaze simple minds. :-)
