I can't tell you how long I've wanted a digital voice recorder. I've had numerous microcassette recorders, but I've never been to fond of them. Poor voice quality, inconvenient size, etc. Well, today I finally bought one. It is quite spiffy, 'tis a Panasonic RR-US360. I've always liked Panasonic quality, I sold it back in the late 70's/early 80's and was thoroughly impressed then, they've never let me down since. I bought a model or two up, but not their most expensive one: this puppy has 8 hours of recording time and a USB interface, so I can download it to my PC.
Yes, I am a gadget freak, but not as much of one as some people might think. I'm doing my best to be practical on my acquisitions and work towards having more than one use for the item before I buy it. Case in point, a digital voice recorder. I've wanted one for general purposes, but I've held off. Well, last week gave me my additonal use: photography.
One requirement in my photography class is to keep a journal of your shooting. It consists of documenting the exposure of each shot, basically frame number, f-stop, and shutter speed. I'm also documenting focal length, either a specific fixed focal length lens or approximate focal length when using a zoom lens. I'll later either write this down in a notebook to turn in or I'll throw it in a database (most likely, being a database geek).
Anyway, EXTREMELY convenient! It clips on your shirt collar, it's extremely light weight, and just a pretty slick little gadget. Much better than keeping a notebook and implement of writage in your pocket and recording every exposure that way, that method is extremely disruptive when you have a good run of shots going.
