Does Pat Robertson exist, do we have unbiased eye witnesses? Personally, I think he's the figment of a deluded imagination.
As I understand it, a person called Jesus did live around 30 CE in the area in question. Some consider him more of a prophet than a son of god. The gospels were written a long time after the period in question, so difficult to say. I haven't heard of any written records independently verifying miracles, so again, difficult to say. What I've always been intrigued by is that there are other written gospels, but they're not considered cannon. So who decided what would and would not be included? To me, there's far too much bias from a small group of people who want to control everyone else in religion. I prefer The Life of Brian philosophy: you've got to work it out for yourselves.
I really wish you two lived near us, it'd be great fun throwing this stuff back and forth over dinner. I had such a group of four or five people, but they've mostly spread to the winds.
