We were up on the north side by the mall, in fact we went to Cheesecake Factory for dinner Friday night (it was gorgeous on the patio, and I absolutely love their iced tea) and Marie Coyle's for breakfast. We split a salmon Eggs Benedict and an order of regular and chocolate croissants. The hotel's breakfast nook just smelled bad, and for some reason the hotel gave me a bad vibe and I just wanted out of there.
I've killed a LOT of critters driving, and I always apologize afterwards. It's inevitable living up here, you'll most commonly hit skunks and raccoons and things around that size. Unfortunately the automobile has only been around a bit over a century and evolution hasn't had a chance to work too much on coping skills for critters. I had a massage last night even further east of Cloudcroft and there were two adult elks wandering around the neighborhood when I left -- I think they're stalking me.... ;-)
I remembered when I moved up here and was taking the dog for a walk one night and saw a porcupine around the tire of a car. Fortunately we saw each other before the dog saw/caught wind of it, so I just stopped until it turned and moseyed away.
