Now wait a minute here.
Feb. 15th, 2016 05:48 am"We're gonna have businesses that used to be in New Hampshire that are now in Mexico come back to New Hampshire, and you can tell them to go f*** themselves, because they let you down, and they left."
—Donald Trump
So he's promising to Make America Great Again and part of that is to bring jobs back to America that have been off-shored to China and Mexico and other places. Now, ignoring the fact that not only have a lot of or most of those factories been gutted and leveled, thus the infrastructure is no longer here, but the skilled labor force that was concentrated in those areas that used to operate those factories have also been sorely reduced through aging-out or moving away.
So if you plop Factory X back in to Town Y, it's not going to spring back in to 100% production as if from the brow of Zeus.
But now he's saying that if Factory X returns to Town Y, that the Townspeoples of Y should tell Factory X to lump it? The incentive here for Factory X to return to New Hampshire is what, exactly?
Oh, I forgot! It's because Trump is going release a herd of icecream-barfing unicorns from sea to shining sea. That'll bring 'em back for sure! And then we can tell them On Your Bike.

Date: 2016-02-21 03:45 am (UTC)Mmm. It's been rather delicious to see people like Time Cook squirm, saying that clearly, those jobs couldn't be brought back to the US - well, no, that's true. As those entire pathways have been torn up and chewed over for Wal-Marts in the poorer areas, and "financial services" in the richer. Gah! Still, at least Cook seems to retain some semblance of humanity, even if he parrots the same "we pay all taxes legally due" line as all the others.
Anyway, I'm sure Twilight Sparkle wouldn't endorse any such silliness.

Date: 2016-02-21 05:53 am (UTC)I will say one thing for Apple: apparently the Mac Pro is made in Texas, so they have brought some manufacturing back. Whether that will expand or not remains to be seen.
I especially hate these tax schemes that all the big corps can employ. There used to be a joke here of forming "A Delaware Corporation" for tax purposes, it even made it in to Get Smart back in the '60s/'70s. But the one that really gets me is General Electric. GE managed it so that not only do they not pay taxes, they get rebates from the government.
