FINALLY got a job!
Nov. 7th, 2017 04:14 pmIt isn't much, a short term contract doing computer upgrades from Windows 7 to 10 at the Air Force base running from December to probably February, but it could lead to working at other bases doing the same thing. We shall see. And it's working directly for Dell, so that could look good on my resume. It's decent pay for the area and it pays weekly, so that's kind of cool. It'll make for a nice Christmas! (after getting the credit cards tamed a bit)
I'm their first hire out of 80 or so that they need to do nation-wide. They'll have something like six Tech 3's locally, of which I'm one, and one Tech 4 who has to have a current security clearance or a Security+ certification to work in the classified side of the base. And the only way to get a security clearance is to be currently working in a job that requires one.
I've been 16 months out of work! It'll be nice to be back in to an 8-5.

Date: 2017-11-08 05:44 pm (UTC)I can definitely live with short term as they have other bases in the area to do, so it's possible that I could end up with adjoining engagements. And Dell does formal help desk contracts on the bases, so that's another possibility if this company staffs them.

It even has (or had - they might've fixed 'em by now) a couple Group Policy settings that do the opposite of what they say they do.
Plus you don't have to go through the hassle of filling out an SF-86.

Date: 2017-11-10 12:56 am (UTC)Yeah, I don't know how much more the Tech 4 gets paid, but I'll let them deal with it. Theoretically the GP settings should get pushed down when the machine logs in, and that'll be the sysadmin's job: far outside of my purview. Some of the questions they asked for the pre-interview were ridiculously inappropriate for the job, they were more oriented to being responsible for the actual network, which we should not be. One network was utterly ridiculous: when the interviewer went over the answer with me, it specifically said to do a Citrix refresh, but Citrix was never mentioned in the question. Minor point. But whatever. I got the job, and that's all that I care about. :-)
